ADALAJ STEPWELL HISTORY: Adalaj stepwell is present in the village adalaj. Stepwell is also famous as rudabai stepwell. It is present in the Gandhinagar district of Gujarat. It was build by Rana veer Singh.
Stepwell is also popular as “vav” in Gujarati & Marwari language. The architectural style is hindu & Islamic. The construction of adalaj stepwell start in 1499. The construction finish in 15th century. Adalaj stepwell is a deep five-storied well. The expense done behind the construction is 5,00,000 ( five lakhs ). The top structure is in octagonal shape. Large number of pillars are present. Three steps from the first storey lead to the bottom level of water. It is consider as a unique feature. The entrance is from south.
Four small rooms are also present at landing level. At the bottom square stepped floor in the shape of a funnel is present. The three carved elephants are also the main attraction. The 3 elephants carvings are present in different designs. Carvings of a woman making buttermilk, musicians & dancer, king looking over these are found. The depiction of ami kumbhor & kalp vriksha is also very interesting.
